South Island Church of Christ
At the South Island Church of Christ, we are a family of believers committed to following Jesus Christ according to the simple and timeless pattern found in the New Testament.
What is the Church of Christ?
The Church of Christ is the living, spiritual body of Christ on earth. We exist to carry out His mission, as given in the Great Commission:
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
— Matthew 28:18-20
We do not follow man-made creeds or traditions but hold firmly to the teachings of the New Testament. Our aim is to be simply Christians only, just as the early church was in the first century.
The Church of Christ began on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2), when the apostles preached the first gospel sermon, and about 3,000 souls were baptized into Christ. Today, we continue in that same pattern.
Our Worship
We strive to worship God with reverence, sincerity, and joy — always according to the teachings of Scripture.
Our worship includes:
Singing: We sing a cappella (without instruments) because this was the example of the early church. Everyone participates, and our voices together bring praise to God (Ephesians 5:19).
Prayer: We pray to the Father through the name of Jesus Christ, giving thanks, seeking guidance, and lifting up our needs.
The Lord’s Supper: Every Sunday, we remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ by partaking of bread and fruit of the vine, just as the early church did (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26).
Giving: We give freely and cheerfully, as God has blessed us, to support the work of the church (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).
Preaching & Teaching: We read and study the Scriptures, striving to learn and grow in faith. Messages are grounded in the Word of God, not human opinion.
All things are done in reverence and order (1 Corinthians 14:40).
Our Beliefs
At the heart of everything we do is faith in Jesus Christ and trust in the inspired Word of God.
GodHead
We believe in God the Father, Jesus Christ His Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are One — eternal, divine, and working together in perfect unity.
Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, complete and sufficient for guiding us in faith and life. No human authority can add to, take away from, or change it.
Jesus
We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Born of a virgin, He lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose from the dead on the third day, and ascended to heaven. He reigns at the right hand of God and will one day return.
Salvation/Baptism
We believe salvation is found only in Christ. It comes through hearing His Word, believing in Him, repenting of sin, confessing His name, and being baptized (immersed) into Christ for the forgiveness of sins.

The mission of the South Island Church of Christ is:
EVANGELISM

- To Share the Gospel — bringing the message of salvation through Jesus Christ to the world so all may experience eternal life.
EDIFICATION

- To Love One Another — living out Christ’s command to love as He loved us (John 13:34-35).
BENEVOLENCE

- To Strengthen the Church — supporting and encouraging each member to remain faithful and to grow spiritually, so together we may reach the goal of heaven.
